Annual Fund

Unrestricted Annual Fund donations are an important part of the Folk School’s budget each year, helping us offer 850+ classes, present concerts and dances, fund our outreach programs, equip studios, and maintain housing and our 270-acre campus. Unless otherwise specified, donations benefit our annual fund.

Designated or Restricted Gifts

If you care about a specific aspect of the Folk School, you can typically designate your gift toward it. The most common gift designation is to benefit a program area you particularly enjoy such as woodturning or cooking. To designate a gift to a specific program area, simply write that program area on the Memo/For line on your check or let us know when you call 800-365-5724 to donate using your credit card.

We also have a Fund-A-Need listing of specific items in studios, housing or elsewhere on campus that would help improve students’ experiences. Visit our Fund-A-Need page to learn more.

Endowment

The Folk School’s endowment is designed to help sustain and improve the school for current and future generations of students. The fund has two main investment goals: to maintain the long-term purchasing power of the fund’s principal and to provide a meaningful and stable flow of funds to the annual operating budget. Supporters interested in making a major gift to the Folk School may consider designating the gift to help grow our endowment.

In-Kind Gifts

People occasionally offer physical items they think might benefit the Folk School. If you have something you think we could use, call or email Kathi Osborne, Development Director, at 800-365-5724 or by using the contact form below. We’ll ask the Resident Artist of the appropriate program area if it would be beneficial and if so, you can bring it to the school.

Matching Gifts

Many companies will match the contributions of employees and former employees. Check with the human resources department at your company to find out if there is a matching gift program and, if so, let us know.

Memorial and Honorific Gifts

You can honor someone living or memorialize someone who’s passed away by donating in their name. We’ll let an honoree know that you’ve provided a tribute to them, and when you provide a memorial gift, we’ll inform the person’s family that you’ve remembered their loved one in this way. Simply write “In honor of” or “In memory of” on the Memo/For line on your check or let us know when you call 800-365-5724 to donate using your credit card.

Recurring Gifts

We are developing a new information technology platform which will allow recurring gifts. In the future, you’ll be able to designate a certain amount you’d like to donate each month using your credit card, including designating a recurring gift to a certain program area. We’ll update this section once that function is available.
