Weaving Studio Floor Gets Transformed

Folk School Maintenance staff working to update flooring.

Weaving is a tradition deeply rooted in the history of the Folk School and Appalachia. Based on consistent demand, we offer 50 year-round weeklong and weekend classes in our weaving studio to beginners and advanced students. To make these classes happen, our staff and instructors from multiple departments work diligently to provide students with a well-maintained studio space.

It was identified that that the old weaving studio floor needed an upgrade, and it was removed in 2021, leaving an unfinished concrete floor. Thanks to our donors the Folk School was able to raise over $10,000 to refinish the weaving studio floor and provide our students with a workable, comfortable floor for future classes! The newly resurfaced floor provides a more comfortable place to stand while students are warping their looms and improves noise and echo in the studio.

There are many ways to give back to the studios you care about. Our giving website makes it easier to make a one-time or recurring donation to our annual fund, program areas, scholarships, or specific items, from painting easels to woodcarving work benches and golf carts. By donating, you become an enduring part of the Folk School and ensure a better experience for yourself and other learners.

If you would like to donate to your beloved studio’s specific needs, please contact giving@folkschool.org or call 828-837-2775.
