Crossnore Communities for Children is a nonprofit organization based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, with a mission to provide hope and healing to children and families through a Christian sanctuary. It evolved from the merger of two historic institutions: The Children’s Home (founded in 1909) and The Crossnore School (founded in 1913), both dedicated to serving vulnerable children.
Crossnore Weavers, part of the organization, preserves Appalachian hand-weaving traditions and supports economic opportunities for women while promoting Crossnore’s broader mission.
In 2017, the two organizations merged to expand and diversify services including residential foster care, mental health care, and support for children aging out of the system. Since then, Crossnore has:
- Opened a regional office in Hendersonville (2018)
- Established the Center for Trauma Resilient Communities (CTRC)
- Expanded statewide Family Preservation services
- Launched the Bridging Families© professional foster care model
- Opened a charter school in Winston-Salem (2024)
Today, Crossnore continues to serve children and families across North Carolina with a holistic, trauma-informed approach.
