21 Sep Winter Dance Week 2023
We’re very excited to present a diverse dance program from December 26, 2023-January 1, 2024!
Ring in the New Year at the Folk School! This popular, year-end, traditional dance and music celebration features primarily English country dance, contras, and squares, all set to live music. The week also includes music classes, flatfoot dancing, calling workshops, group singing, jam sessions, and more. Winter Dance Week offers a unique combination of top-notch callers, instructors, and musicians—along with beautiful surroundings, delicious food, comfortable accommodations, and a friendly atmosphere. A memorable New Year’s Eve Party and New Year’s Day breakfast complete the week.
SKILL LEVEL: Participants should have previous group dance experience (such as our Traditional Group Dancing weekend class).
Limited work exchange scholarships are available.
NOTE: Winter Dance Week is subject to change. Adjustments to the typical format may be needed should COVID-19 still be a public health concern. Please email programming@folkschool.org for the most up-to-date information.
Since many folks will be traveling and seeing friends and family before WDW, we are asking participants and staff to consider self-administering a rapid test before traveling to Brasstown. Testing once on site will be at the participant’s discretion. Evening dances will be open to the public.
We also recommend you bring KN95s to provide effective masking while we will all be dancing in close contact to one another indoors.
On New Year’s Eve, Winter Dance Week students will be able to ring in the New Year with a lively dance and midnight balloon drop. The Brasstown Brigade will fire in the New Year at 12:15 a.m. with their black-powder muskets in the loop outside Keith House.
Dances that are scheduled during December 27th to 30th from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. each night are open to the general public, and admission is $10 for adults at the door. Children aged 12 and under can enjoy the festivities for free.
