History Center

The History Center
The school's fascinating background is captured in our History Center, where you'll find interesting examples of 20th-century Appalachia on display. Visual art, fine and folk craft, music, historic film footage, photographs and written textual panels give you a strong sense of how our today is defined by our past. From the old bench where the world-famous Brasstown Carvers began, to the original photographs of world-renowned photographer Doris Ulmann, you'll discover the rich heritage that has made the Folk School a historical landmark. The Folk School was named a Historic District with the National Register of Historic Places on August 22, 1983.
