JCCFS: Tell us alittle bit about yourself? How did you get established in your craft?
NH:I have been teaching at the Folk School for over 25 years. I am a fiber artist, teaching quilting, hand stitching, and baskets. I love traveling around the country, sharing my knowledge with students of all ages.
JCCFS: Tell us more about your upcoming class. What will students be making?
NH: Students will paint paper, cut it with a pasta cutter, and then weave the paper strips around a basket mold. We will experiment with color combinations as well as a variety of basket shapes and sizes.

JCCFS: What are you most excited to experience during your time here at the Folk School?
NH: Meeting people –not just my students, but others on campus as well.
JCCFS: What mediums do you use and where do you derive inspiration from?
NH: I work with fibers, cloth, ribbon, thread, paper, as well as beads. I love exploring color combinations and devising new techniques.
JCCFS: What is your favorite part about campus, and where do you like spending time?
NH: Living in the deep south, I find that being in the mountains brings me peace. I spend most of my time in the studio, since I like to work on my own pieces outside of class time. I love walking the wooded path between Bistrup and Keith House in the morning!
JCCFS: How did you first hear about the Folk School?
NH: Over 30 years ago, I saw an ad in Fine Woodworking and discovered Little/Middle. At the time, our children were young, and it was the perfect vacation for our family. We have been coming ever since.
JCCFS: Any tips for aspiring makers or craftspeople?
NH: Explore, explore, then explore some more. Don’t limit yourself –each craft will teach you something. I continue to take classes, not only to learn but also to improve my own teaching skills.
JCCFS: Where can folks find more about you and your work?
NH: On my website: fiberartsstudio.com.
