Position Summary
The Creative Program Advisor – Wood is responsible for program development and innovation in assigned wood program areas, coordination of relevant studios, instructor communications, training, and support, and working to promote and strengthen programs. The Creative Program Advisor will represent the organization to local, regional, and national audiences including instructors, assistants, students, and donors and will develop new constituents through continued service and outreach. The CPA reports to the Programs Director for program development and to the Studio Manager for studio operations. This is a part-time, non-exempt hourly position that will work approximately 8 hours per week. Hours will be based on business need. Weekend and evening work is required.
Position Responsibilities
- Directly responsible for developing balanced and varied programming for assigned program areas, including schedule planning of anywhere from 6-60 classes per year, analysis of programming statistics, instructor hiring, course development and development of special programs.
- Work collaboratively to set annual program goals.
- Manage instructor communications. Attend to instructors’ needs by communicating in advance of classes to order all materials and set up studio spaces. Welcome instructors when they arrive on campus and train new ones.
- Work with the Programs Development Manager and instructors on the development of all class-related content. Edit any relevant class material for accuracy and consistency and ensure that all public-facing information is correct.
- Monitor enrollment trends, instructor and student evaluations, and address any conflicts or concerns that may arise regarding class content and student/instructor experience. Assess current program offerings annually and on an ongoing basis.
- Respond to inquiries from potential new instructors and process applications.
- Advise Studio Manager in developing the studio operating and capital budgets, restricted funds use and vendor relationships.
- Manage weekly cleaning and flipping of the studio between classes. This position requires working on weekends and some evenings.
- Maintain a visible and welcoming presence in the studio to set the tone for a successful and positive Folk School experience.
- Work collaboratively with Programs staff to contribute to creative program development.
- Communicate as needed with the operations team to manage shared equipment, and complete end-of-year duties including inventory and maintenance.
- Attend relevant shows to do hands-on demonstrations or talks to promote the Folk School and relevant programs.
- Maintenance studio related equipment as needed.
- Support special programs and events when possible.
- Help assess and process studio donations.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Experience in wood program areas or a combination of related experience and education.
- An understanding of the materials and techniques of relevant fields to be able to offer balanced and creative programming.
- Established connections within associated fields and the ability to recruit instructors from new and diverse avenues is preferred.
- Solid understanding of the Folk School concept and a desire to engage and promote this educational model.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
Physical Demands
This position requires travel and the ability to drive a car. A current driver’s license is required. The position requires that the employee be able to walk unaided up and down hills and over uneven terrain, bend, stoop, and have use of fine and gross motor skills. The work of this position frequently requires the use of hands to handle or touch objects, tools, or controls. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move heavy objects or boxes, up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will need to occasionally sit and work at a computer. Must be able to work weekends and holidays, as needed. This position requires fluency in English.
Pay & Benefits
The pay for this position is approximately $20.00 per hour. As a benefit, the Folk School offers one tuition free class annually.
