Richard Reames studied botany and horticulture in college. He has experimented with trees for 15 years and coined the word "Arborsculpture" to describe the living chairs, tables, fences, houses and gazebos he creates. Richard encourages the use of live trees as sound ecological replacements for common landscape requirements. He was Arborsculpture coordinator for the Growing Village pavilion at the 2005 World's Fair in Japan. He is the author of How to Grow a Chair and Arborsculpture - Solutions for a Small Planet.
